Spanish Work Visa Dilema - Please Help! (Living in the UK)

Postby jake2000 » Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:07 am

Hi

I’m a Canadian living in Britain with Dual citizenship (British / Canadian), and have solely my Canadian passport.

I’ve recently been offered by a British company to work in Spain at a business seminar for 2 weeks. My dilemma is whether to bother applying for a work visa for Spain; it can (apparently) take a few months (which I don’t have) and be a very drawn out process, simply for 2 weeks of work. The alternative is to go out there as a ‘tourist’ and hope all ‘goes well’.

I do have the right to obtain a British (EU) passport (also a drawn out process) but am worried, as have heard rumors that this may work against me when renewing my Canadian passport in the future.

Any help, experiences or thoughts greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Jake

You should apply for your British passport, the first passport application can take around 6 weeks the first time. You may be invited to an interview (mainly security checks from what I heard).

British and Canadians are allowed dual citizenship so there is not reasons to think that it would affect in any way your Canadian status (and passport)

Hope this helps
