Good evening,
About 3 years ago I moved with my wife and kids to Mexico to do mission work. At that time, I sent a note to Canada Customs and Revenue Agency saying that we were leaving the country, and that I would be cancelling my permanent residency. At the time, I judged that to be best, but am now having second thoughts.
I have been told by a few folks that Canada has special rules for citizens that leave to do humanitarian work etc, like mission work, and that although we would very soon not be able to meet the 730 day rule or 5 years, we could still be permanent residents.
Question 1: Are there special rules for mission work / humanitarian work?
Question 2: If I want to regain my permanent residency without actually returning permanently to Canada, can that be done?
Many thanks for all your help,
Dan
