Spouse to follow TD app: copy of I-94 notarized?

Post Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:14 pm

I'm now in the US working on TN status. I came down by myself, 'cause we didn't want to move the kids during the school year.

My wife is coming down to visit me in a couple of weeks; check out the area, check out the schools, etc. I figure she'd better be ready to apply for her TD status when she hits USCIS in YVR, 'cause they might not let her in as "just a visitor".

I'm going to send her all my paperwork that I had with me to get my TN and my I-94. Now, I know she needs a copy of my I-94 at the border. But is a regular photocopy OK, or would the copy have to be notarized?

Thanks! I got some great advice here before actually moving down, so belated thanks to everyone here for that, too.

You'll be in their system under the number printed on the card, they'll just look up the entry record from the photocopy of the I-94. Your last names should match so it won't be a problem. The only other things she really needs is a copy of the marriage certificate and her passport or NEXUS card. A photocopy of the entry stamp and the photo page of your passport wouldn't hurt.

Did this work? I would have thought the spouse would have to apply for the TD at the US consulate in YVR and not at the airport?

Only non-Cdns need to go to a consulate. Cdns apply for TD at the border/airport as they enter US.
