Student visa - medical requirements

Postby jiwest on Sun Nov 02, 2008 2:03 pm

Hello!

I'll be attending the University of Sydney starting this upcoming February - and I'm just wondering something about the student visa. When I applied online recently, I was told that I required a medical examination and a chest x-ray to complete my visa. I find this very odd - as I specified that I have no history of any medical problems whatsoever - it just seems so out of the blue, and I'm worried about it slowing down my visa process. My question is, is this a standard procedure for Canadians applying for Australian visas? Has anyone else had to do this?

Thanks!

That's pretty standard. They want to make sure you're healthy and not bringing anything bad into Australia (like Aids, Tuberculosis, etc).

I don't quite know the requirements for a student visa but we had to do full medicals (medical, chest x-ray, blood & Urine test) when we got our permanent visa.

I wouldn't worry. It's quite normal.
