Hello everybody! I'm a student from Vancouver and I've applied through uni-assist for a place at FU Berlin's Studienkolleg beginning in the winter semester of 2008/09. I have a whole host of questions, so if anyone could be of any help, it would be much appreciated!

As mentioned, I have applied through uni-assist, however as the application deadline is not until 31 May, I will apparently not receive any confirmation until early June, leaving me about three weeks time before I must be in Berlin to write the Aufnahmeprüfung. Should I be worried about not being accepted based on my application, or is acceptance solely based on the results of the Aufnahmeprüfung? Essentially, if all necessary paperwork was delivered to uni-assist in time, will I automatically be invited to write the Aufnahmeprüfung? I worry, since, well. I have no backup plan. Smile

In addition to the abovementioned issue, which has been causing me a great deal of anxiety lately, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some practical information on the structure and workings of the Studienkolleg itself? How many hours per day are scheduled for course work? When are the holidays? What is the workload like? How is the learning atmosphere? etc. etc.

Finally, I will need a part-time job to finance my living expenses. The plan right now is to find a 400,- € per month Minijob, perhaps at a restaurant or something of the like, to be supplemented with money from pre-existing personal savings. How difficult is it to find such a job in Berlin? Will my study schedule allow me to devote enough time to working?

I know this is quite a bit, but if anyone could help me in answering some of these questions, I would be eternally grateful!

Cheers,
Chandler
