Switching from international to classic account on LloydsTSB

Post Fri Jul 10, 2009 4:18 pm

Hello LloydsTSB,

If I sign up with your account while in Canada, the only option is to open your International Bank Account. Is it possible to switch to your Classic Account once I arrive in the UK?

For anyone curious about the answer, Lloyds TSB in the UK responded to my query and they said that it is not possible to convert your Lloyds TSB international account to one of their other accounts.

They also told me that it can't be switched, but the truth is, it can. I moved to the UK about two months ago, and secured a Lloyds Offshore Premier International account before coming. Once I got here, I went into the Pall Mall branch in London, which they say is their international banking center. I told them that I was having a hard time dealing with the Int'l account and didn't feel that the fees justified the service. The fellow there, I think his name was Chris, was super friendly, and offered to open a domestic account for me, transferring the information I provided for the Int'l account. He even let me keep the Int'l acct open until I could decide whether it was smart to close it (which I'm still having a hard time deciding cause of insurance, tax benefits, etc). Now I have two accounts!

So technically, it may not be possible, but if you get the right person, particularly at the big branch on Lower Regent St there, you may be in luck.
