I've been reading all the other posts on this very complicated subject of figuring out how to stay in the UK once married but I can't quite tell what I should do next so am hoping there might be some students or former students who have or are negotiating a similar situation.

I am on a UK student visa, valid from 09/06-until 01/10. My UK fiance and I are getting married in Canada in September and I am wondering if I should start pursuing leave to remain after the wedding, or wait until nearer the expiry of my student visa? What is not clear from the Home Office websites is whether my period of residence in the UK as a student counts at all towards receiving indefinite leave to remain.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!
