Tasmania as vacation destination?

What do you all think of Tasmania as a vacation destination? Has anyone ever been there?

The author who wrote this article: tinyurl.com/lte3d5 …called it an "eco-paradise" and seemed to really like it!

I went there with my partner over the Christmas/New Years break last year and LOVED it! There is literally everything there... jungle, mountains, and beaches. It's really cold in winter so go in the summer when it's much more pleasant (and more pleasant than the rest of Oz which is scorching hot). We LOVED Strahan, took a river cruise there which was awesome. We also loved the tree walk, I can't remember what town that's in but it's not far from Hobart, just south west of there. The absolute best was wine glass bay, that's the east coast and the "beachy" side, we stayed in a little beach town called Bicheno but you can also stay or camp right in the park by the bay. There are hikes and caves and the pace is a lot slower than a big city like Melbourne (where I live) or Sydney. I'm sure Hobart has some nightlife as well, but it's probably not the vacation you take if that's what you're looking for, but it is so peaceful and beautiful. I definitely agree with the eco-paradise bit. Probably my favorite place in Australia so far.

I (Canadian) went with my Aussie partner for 2 weeks and drove around the whole thing....it was not enough time to see nearly everything but I would totally recommend this place! SO BEAUTIFUL! Loved it and will go back again and again!:D
