I went there with my partner over the Christmas/New Years break last year and LOVED it! There is literally everything there... jungle, mountains, and beaches. It's really cold in winter so go in the summer when it's much more pleasant (and more pleasant than the rest of Oz which is scorching hot). We LOVED Strahan, took a river cruise there which was awesome. We also loved the tree walk, I can't remember what town that's in but it's not far from Hobart, just south west of there. The absolute best was wine glass bay, that's the east coast and the "beachy" side, we stayed in a little beach town called Bicheno but you can also stay or camp right in the park by the bay. There are hikes and caves and the pace is a lot slower than a big city like Melbourne (where I live) or Sydney. I'm sure Hobart has some nightlife as well, but it's probably not the vacation you take if that's what you're looking for, but it is so peaceful and beautiful. I definitely agree with the eco-paradise bit. Probably my favorite place in
Australia so far.
