Tax Question

Post Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:01 pm

My common law partner and I are currently living in The Yukon but moving to Australia and applying for residency there in November this year.
For 2010 tax purposes, as it all calculated on where you reside on 31 December 2010, what form would we use to file our tax? Are we deemed non-residents, even though we worked in Canada for 11 out of the 12 months of the year?

You are a Cdn resident until the day you move to OZ. At that point you file a departure return, as departing resident of YT. Then you will be pure non-resident. The "deemed" statuses do not apply in your case.

See the emigrants guide on CRA website
