Taxed twice on US income?

Post Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:03 am

Wondering if anyone knows anything about this:

I'll be working on a TN VISA in the states. Would I be taxed twice on my income by the US and Canada? Someone told me no, I just need to prove residency in the States with rental receipts. So does that mean I should take my name of the title of my family's home? What ties do I need to severe in Canada? (eg. do I need to cancel all bank accounts and credit cards?)

Please help! thanks!

Get yourself a book called The Border Guide, it's helpful for Canadians in the US and tax implications.

I severed all ties when I moved here, but I came as a spouse of a US citizen, not on a T1.

If you plan to stay permanently in the US, you probably should consider severing financial ties, but if you're only staying temporarily on the T1, you probably don't need to.

There is a tax accounting firm in the US who does cross border tax stuff, but for the life of me I can't remember their name at the moment. When I find it I'll post it here for you.
