Teaching english in Peru

Hey, I'm about to get my certification papers from Oxford Seminars to be able to teach English as a second language overseas and am planning to go to Peru for my first contract. I am only applying for a 1-month contract but still am really nervous about the trip. What can I expect from the people there? (Rude, friendly, ect)
Is it safe to travel there?
Is there a big difference between the insect populations in Peru Vs. Canada?

It would help me out a lot if anyone could share his or her experience and knowledge with me!
