Hello Jackie,

There is no independent, international awarding body for the TESL/TEFL Certification. There are many inferior courses out there.

If considering taking a TESL/TEFL course, then take a look at http://www.aacircle.com.au/tesl_tefl.htm

Listed are some of the better ones in the industry.

Good luck! Smile

Jackie,
You can also check out www.eslmonkeys.com for a load of information about lesson plans and esl books that promote teacher advancement.
Good Luck!

CELTA is highly regarded especially for jobs in the EU and southeast Asia. It's starting to become more prevalent in Northeast Asia as well. If you haven't taught before CELTA would definitely get you on your feet.

Cheers,

I agree with others here - CELTA is a really good way to go. I have a TESOL certificate myself, and it's more theory based (like how people learn languages, linguistics etc.). If I had the choice, I would have done a CELTA course. CELTA is very practical in that it'll give you the skills needed to be an effective English lanugage teacher.
