Hi Marilyn,
Are you slated to move to the UAE definitely? There's a few schools in town that hire experienced teachers on local contract (you are hard pressed to get a foreign hire contract once you land in the UAE). We work at the American Community School in Abu Dhabi (ACS) (US curriculum), though I believe all our jobs are filled for this academic year. There are always teaching assistant jobs in the ES that are part time, though they don't pay a lot, they keep you in the school atmosphere!
There are also a bunch of other schools I'll list below. You can find them on the web for more info.
1. American International School of Abu Dhabi (AISA):
2. Abu Dhabi International School (AIS)
3. International School of Choueifat
4. Canadian Grammar School
5. The British School Al Khubairat
6. Sheikh Zayed Private Girls School (runs an Ontario Curriculum)
Those are the English language based schools. You can do some research on them from the net, and then if you need to know more, post a message for me. We've been teaching internationally for 13 years now and are entering our 3rd year in AbuDhabi. My DH is the middle school principal at ACS and I'm teaching grade 8 Life Skills this year (as I'm a counsellor in training!) I've also taught high school philosophy in the past, and have worked as a college counsellor.
Best,
Expatmich
