Teenagers in Mexico?

Teenagers in Mexico?

Postby Azzura Di Marco » Sun Jan 04, 2009 8:39 pm

I have been offered a job in the DF starting late february should I chose to take it. I'm a single mom and my daughter in 15 years old. The job is a good one, it would pay well and allows me to work at quite a high level. The company would provide us with a house and they set us up quite well! My only concern would be what it's like for a 15 year old girl to live in the DF? She speaks Italian fluently and so do I (which is what allowed me to become fluent in Spanish as well) so I'm not too worried about the language barrier. However we live in Montreal now which is a pretty safe city and she's been used to taking the metro and buses by herself for years now. Will Mexico City be too much of a shock for her? We've never been there, only to the Yucatan peninsula for vacation where she attracted quite a lot of attention (she has blonde hair, which seems to be popular there), should I be worried about her being harassed or of her safety? Are teenagers in Mexico much different from those in Montreal?

She'll have a great time. Mexico City teenagers are very into anything current and American. Her speaking Italian (and I guess French-for Montreal?) will make it extremely easy to pick up not only Spanish, but Mexico City teenager Spanish.

And don't worry about safety. Montreal is a far more dangerous town than Mexico City. Don't buy what media tells you. Hells Angels never kept me from enjoying the best that MTL has to offer. Enjoy your time here!

Hi, I live in Mexico City, i was born here, i think you and your daughter will have a really nice time in here, i have to tell you that most of the Mexican people loves Canadians, particulary I do, I love Montreal by the way... about the language, i think your daughter with the Italian and French background will be able to speak Spanish really fast...yeah, you're right about the "blonde stuff" in Mexico there are not so many blonde people, so they are popular among us haha... i don't think you should be worry about her safety or your's, and yes, Guy has right, the media exaggerates everything here, I mean, is a big city, but with some tips you will be ok, and you will love here, so if you need anything, any doubt or something, please let me know, I'll be glad to help you, and if you decide to come here i can help you with whatever you need...please feel free to send me a message or a mail. Good Luck!!

Crysthian's offer of helping you when you are there is typical of the Mexican culture. It is the one thing that draws my wife and I to Mexico more and more.
