We brought our vehicles from Edmonton to Texas - we did not pass the requirements for importation and were given one year to get rid of the car - the truck was fine. So, we drove the car to Edmonton and gave it to our daughter. We just presented our Canadian registration and they registered our vehicles under the provision for out of state vehicles. You only have 30 days to do this. I wouldn't trust what the insurance company says, as they do not understand what it means to bring a car in from another country, as opposed to another state. You need to abide by the laws of Texas - people are too eager to sue if you have an accident and I think you would find your insurance invalid because the car is not legal here.
