temporary work in australia

Post Fri Oct 09, 2009 11:48 am

Hi! like many of you I'm going to australia on a working vacation to skip out on the canadian winter and enjoy the laid back aussie lifestyle! I've read lots of good things so far but not so much as far as specific job ideas. I'd love some advice and information on what kind of work I can find with my qualifications, which cities would be best, and the process involved in finding these jobs. Here's a quick summary of my resume by the time I plan on leaving in January or early February 2010:

University graduate (graduating in December)in a 3 year Psychology degree.
2 and a half years as a supply worker in a hospital.
6 months as a valet attendant at an upscale hotel (still currently employed here and at the hospital)
6 months working at a bar, though I don't necessarily wish to work at a bar in australia.

I consider myself very personable and professional in everything I do, and I think I make a good impression in interviews. Now the question is where and what could I interview for if I can only work for 3 months with a working holiday visa? Ultimately I plan on staying in australia between 4-6 months, spending about a third to half that time travelling all over the country and New Zealand. I'm leaning towards the east coast of the country simply because I don't want to be too isolated. I don't want to work on a farm, but aside from that I'm open to suggestion. Thanks!
