Has anyone gone through the TFN process?

I wanted to get my TFN as soon as possible since I start my job about a week after I arrive in Austrlia. I read that I need an Australian address/ residence in order to apply for the TFN, which I don't have because I thought I'd find a place to live when I arrive in Australia. Also, I read that you need a TFN to start a bank account.

I feel sort of like I am in a catch-22, where I need a TFN and bank account to work, but I can't get a TFN number until I find a place to live, which I can't do until I arrive.does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

hello! you dont need a tfn to open a bank account. I would suggest commonwealth bank-i looked into a few banks and it seemed the best. i was really happy with them. you just need your passport and other id to open an account. you can do a streamline account for 3$ a month as well as an esavings account with 8% interest rate. as for the tfn, you apply online once you are in oz. you have to be in australia to apply, but its quick and easy to do. good luck!
where you travelling to?
good luck! christine
