The big move.

Post Tue Jul 28, 2009 4:36 pm

Hello, my husband and I have recently been discussing moving to the Mayan Rivera either by purchasing a business or using the income from a business we have here. I have a few questions and appreciate your help!!

First, how hard is it to move to Mexico and stay if you want to be working? In terms of immigration etc. If we buy a business there is it easier? If we wish to stay indefinitely and become landed immigrants is that very hard? At some point must we become citizens , is it easier to do so? Can we maintain a Canadian passport if we do?

I have looked up schools for our daughter and that seems pretty straight forward but if anyone has any tips that would be great. She is still a baby so lots of time for us all to learn spanish !

Lastly Medical. Is it private, if so how much is insurance and how is the system there, good doctors/hospitals/clinics etc? If it is through the government like here, can landed immigrants obtain local insurance ?

Lastly for those living or who have spent time in the Yucatan please tell me your favourite place. We are looking at Playa, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, and Cancun.

Thanks for your time, Jenni
