The plan...any suggestions

Ok, I have done a fair amount of research and really havent come up with much. This has been the best place for resources that I have seen. My gf and I will be headed back to N. America after a 2 year stint in Asia. We are going to travel before we come home and really have no opportunity to apply and look for jobs while in Asia and traveling. I am planning on picking up my gf in Toronto and then driving to California where she will look for a job(is this the easiest way? Also, what do we say at the border?). We cant do anything from here so we think the easiest way is to look for a job in Cali that will sponser the visa and then make the necessary trips back to Canada in order to do everything legal. (however I know it is illegal to go in and look for a job, but really there is no other option) I have a list of questions that I was hoping that somebody could give me some advice on
1st. What to do at the border when I cross over by myself and return with my girl? Vacationing.any advice?
2nd. gf has only diploma in business with no relevant experience, her experience is working with children and special needs children. Does this rule out the T-1 Visa?
3rd. Is ther any type of work you can do on the K-1 visa?
4th. Would it be easier for me to make a move to Canada being that I have a bachelors degree?

I have about a million more questions and am trying to sort this out before we make a major move, we just dont want to be in a situation where she isn't allowed into America. Any advice that can be given to us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
