Hello everyone,

I have a question for those of you who are in the Emirates, or perhaps, have lived there before.

My husband was recently offered a job at the School of Research Science in Dubai for the upcoming 06/07 school year and we need to decide soon if we're going to accept. Has anyone heard of it before? What's the atmosphere like? My husband is accustomed to teaching in a Canadian college and is not sure what to expect from an Emrati high school.

Any information about the school, the students/staff/administration, and the salary/benefits would be of great help.

Also, I've also been looking for work in the Emirates for the last four months and haven't had much success. I'm a recent graduate (Bachelor of Education) and only have one year of teaching experience in a Canadian high school. The market seems to be intimidatingly competitive! What is the market like for tutors, or teaching internships, or other education-related jobs? I'm still in Canada right now - is it difficult for me to find work from here?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Canadianteacher,
I am not really familiar with the school that you are speaking about. My wife and I taught in Dubai for two years and have been back for a year and are now heading to the Dominican Republic. We are both teachers as well. I would suggest to you that there are a lot of opportunities to substitute teach at the schools there and if your husband has a decent overseas package, it should be a reasonably lucrative option. There are some really good packages and some really bad ones so be careful. Your husband should get all the information about his housing, medical and flights before he goes over there. There is an International School Job fair in Dubai in January. You may be able to finds something there.
My wife and I taught at Dubai American Academy and really enjoyed it there. There were a number of Canadian teachers there and it is a very friendly atmosphere with great kids (67 nationalities).

I hope this helps.
Cheers,

Hi there, I have also been offered a position at srs. I've been going over their offer but think the contract is very vague. Has anyone else thought this? I'm awaiting a reply from my contact at the school but am looking for a heads up or a go ahead from anyone that's been there. What is considered a 'good and lucrative' offer to teach in Dubai?

Any comments are appreciated. If everything works out i'll see some of you there Very Happy [/b]
