The weather

Postby Brenda on Tue Jan 11, 2005 9:22 pm

If anyone has some time on their hands today and is in the Stirling area, feel free to drop round my place.

We can sip hot chocolate and watch out the back window for my neighbour's patio furniture to come flying over the fence.

It's early in the morning here (I've been up since 4am) and I have decided not to brave the winds that were helping me steer the car yesterday. I'll be calling work at 8 to say "don't expect me."

Incidentally for those in Scotland, you can check road closures and whatnot on this website: www.nadics.org

I think you're wise not to go in today- its windy! If we were in Canada I might just even say "windy enough for ya'?"

I'm from Vancouver, living in Manchester. This winter is actually feeling a lot like home.

Weather report

Postby Brenda on Wed Feb 23, 2005 8:17 am

It's snowing (at least a couple inches) and for all intents and purposes, Scotland has shut down. My husband got let off work early.

Nice!

Heh. People in the office yesterday were telling stories about being stuck in 3 inches of snow. One person ran into their own fence trying to leave the house. Now, being from Vancouver, I don't have loads of experience dealing with snow, but I've spent a few Christmases in Edmonton and Calgary. When I said I'd been stuck in 5 ft of snow and 40-below weather outside of Invermere, everyone looked a little sheepish.

Anyway, here in Manchester it snows, then stops, gets sunny, turns to rain, snows really heavily again, and stops again. It's just teasing me, I'm sure of it.

Reactions here to snow are ridiculous.
Just came back from Quebec for my yearly dose of proper white stuff...only to come to a panicked Britain, radio Five announcing "Siberian conditions"

I got a little covering up on my welsh hill but nothing to write home about..

I was in the UK last week and had quite a laugh when the tv showed a reporter in northern England, saying "as you can see I'm in knee deep snow". I didn't know they called "ankles" knees in England!!!. Clearly the snow was no where near his knees.
