Things to consider when moving to another country

Post Thu Jun 19, 2008 8:16 am

Hi there,

I currently reside in Canada and am looking at a job offer in the US. There are a couple of things that I am trying to figure out and hopefully you all can help me out.

What sort of things are there to take into consideration when moving to another country? I've trolled through the forum and I think that I have a good handle on the TN Visa and taxes, still a little sketchy on the latter though. Are there any good online resources to prepare for such a move? I don't want to leave anything out.

I have not visited the state where the job is, CT, so I am not sure what the place is like. I'm trying to figure out the real estate, standard of living and any daily living costs associated with residing in Conneticut. Just to make sure that the salary is enough to provide a good living and all.

Any help is appreciated.

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/p151/README.html

Read that if you haven't already. There are tons of threads on here about importing your car, etc. if you have a look (the key point being that if you've owned the car for a year or more there is NO DUTY to pay, and moving a leased car is basically impossible).
Steve.
