My wife and I live near New York City. Our time on our L-1 status will expire on March 31 -- forcing us to return to Canada.
In preparation of our departure from the US, and to prepare for our return to Canada, what things we should be doing to make the transition easier?
For example, any tax advice? For example, does it make sense to realize your capital gains you've made while in the States so as to avoid Canadian taxes?
If you live in New York City, what things would you do before you left it?
Any other tips or suggestions?
L-1 -- does anyone know that if our L-1 expires on March 31, do we have to leave by March 31? Any grace period ( I assume not)?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
