Thinking about moving to London

Post Fri Jul 07, 2006 10:43 pm

Hey all,
I just came across this site yesterday and thought I'd ask for some information/advice.
I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia right now and am taking my Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Computing and Information Systems. Me and a friend of mine are thinking about moving to London or somewhere around there after we graduate in 3 years. I'm just wondering what type of visa I would need and how hard they are to obtain. I want to go for a while and wish to work full time. So I would need a working visa, wouldn't I? Are they even possible to get with a BC and zero job experience? And is London really a bad place to start out? I know it costs a lot to live there but, how much of a difference in costs is there if we were to live out of the city? I’d really love to move to the UK, but I’m starting to think its going to be way to hard to make it happen.

Meghan- welcome to the site.

I assume since you are a student you are under 30 (and have no children). If that's the case, you could apply for a working holiday visa which would allow you two years here (though you can only work for 12 months). If your parents or grandparents emmigrated from an EU country, you may be eligible for citizenship from that country which would allow you to live and work here without any restrictions. (My parents were both born in Holland and I have a Dutch passport as well- it's awesome!)

Good luck!

(I think others here have the WHV and can give the details of how to go about it).
