Hi I'm Tamara and I'm also in Monttreal and thinking to move to Australia for the same reasons as mentionned above. I've been googling a lot of info and i'm so glad i found this forum. Apparently I'm eligible for the skilled state sponsored visa 176 butit seems like it costs so much to get it! Especially if i use a mgration agent.
I was wondering where the Australan consulate in Montreal is. I thought the closest one was in Ottawa. I'd really like to talk in person to someone who has expertise in the mmigration/visa business.

There aren't any in Montreal.

Also, they're not really there to help people through individual immgration matters. That's what agents are for, for the advice. The high commision can answer specific questions dealing with applications (sometimes) but if you want someone to help you decide which visa to go for they're not really the place.

Although they might be able to answer your question about sponsorship. Be advised though the people staffing the help lines really don't know the ins and outs a lot of the time. I've called several times for important matters and got different answers. So if you want/need the full truth speak to a MARA registered agent.

I don`t plan to come back to Canada, in that situation, what should I do?

Hello there,

I'm in the same boat as you are, felt the urge to leave for almost forever! About your IT background, it's also very similar to my situation, so I can give you some general guidelines.

IT migrants are regulated by ACS (australian computer society) and are divided in 3 groups. You are eligible for ACS assessement if you meet the group criterias. If I remember right, Group A is if you have a bachelor or better in IT and 4 years professional experience. Group B is no bachelor and 6 years. Group C is if you studied 2 years + full time in Australia and got an Australian degree. I'm aiming at Group C (hoping to study down there) as it is the quickest option for IT poeple, but quite costly. Of course, there's the working holiday to sponsorship option, but you'.d have to get pretty lucky for it to work.

Anyways, best of luck to you all! :)
