thinking to go for Work in US (need advise)

Post Wed Aug 11, 2010 9:00 pm

Hi Canucks,

I have been giving serious thoughts in going to US for work purposes. I am currently employed in a Bank here and my occupation is towards Project Management/ Business Analysis for the Financial sector. I have close to 9 years of experience

I noticed that jobs are rebounding in US and I am targeting NY/NJ. However, I have been finding difficulties to apply for jobs because lot of companies seem to do not know about the NAFTA agreement and the TN-1 Status for Canadian Citizens.

I would like to have some guidance as to how I could circumvent this issue. Is it by introducing the NAFTA on the cover letter? Any samples ?

I had talked to a head hunter awhile ago and he was not aware of NAFTA. Once he understood he wanted my cv. Amazing!! but not surprising.

How difficult is it for Canadians to get a job with a TN-1 Visa these days in US ?

Thanks a lot for you help,
R

Hold onto your position a while longer. Although the U.S. economy is growing again, it will take time for all of the unemployed to be reabsorbed into the labor force. The jobless rate is currently 9.5% but is projected to climb again to over 10% again next winter. Wait it out a bit before making a move as a double dip recession is definitely a possibility in this foreclosure driven recession.
