timing of TN visa application

Hello all,

I have accepted a position in Milwaukee starting at the beginning of May. My new employer is having his lawyer draw up a letter of offer for TN visa purposes. I am scheduled to go to Milwaukee to rent an apartment the last weekend of March, but wondered if I would be best to apply for the visa before or after I return. I live in Kitchener, Ontario and planned on driving to the Sarnia/Port Huron border crossing to apply for the visa.

from what i've read in previous posts, you can only apply for a TN visa up to 2 weeks before the start date of your employment in the US. so in your case, you'd have to apply in the beginning of May when you are on your way down there to start your job.
