Just curios about what happens to the contributions we make from our paychecks while working on a TN in the US. Do we get anything back on leaving the US?

Well, the SSA will make social security payments to you wherever you happen to live when you hit the age at which you wish to claim your social security, and the payments will be based on whatever your contributions were.
