I would say 3 1/2 weeks before the start date might be pushing your luck with CBP depending on the port of entry. Some inspectors might not blink an eye but I suspect this could be problematic with some officers. It could be a crapshoot at best. See if you can plan on going for your TN a little closer to your start date.

Just cleared immigration with a full three years of TN status.

Thanks for the help!

FYI, the only supporting document he looked at was my original PhD diploma in physics (applied as a physicist). No transcripts, resumes, etc. Also no need for birth certificate or copies.

The only thing he kept was one copy of the letter of application.

Yup, letter, degree and passport is all you need. Anyone who told you otherwise was flat wrong.

A resume is not a prerequisite for a TN application, merely optional. It looks like you have very good timing as far as receiving immigration status under TN. CBP/USCIS is proposing hefty petition increases in the coming months. A TN petition fee may increase from $56 to $150. Wow!
