I am a Canadian citizen holding a Bachelor and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (concentration on communication systems and signal processing). I have an offer to work in the IT department at a Bank in NY. The job includes a lot of data analysis/modeling. I wonder if a degree in Electrical Engineering qualifies for the computer system analyst (I have related courses to systems and signal modeling, computer hardware and software).

In general, is there a restriction on the major? Should it be in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering and/or other Engineering majors qualify for Computer System Analyst category.

Thanks for your time.

Of course you're qualified. There is no magic degree; they run the gamut.

I have a history Honours BA and a BEd and 3+ years work experience as the head of my IT department. Would I qualify?

You qualify on the Masters degree alone.

I know you were replying to him - I don't have a masters

What about me?

Did you do additional courses, like MCSE, CCNA and others ? The more credentials you have the more they'll likely approve your TN even if don't have the computer science or engineering degree.

I also have bachelor and master degree in Electrical Engineering but had very few (3 or 4) courses related to computer science in degree courses. I have 12 years of experience as software/web developer.

Would I qualify as “Software Engineer” for TN?
