TN Contractor moving back to Canada

Post Thu Nov 10, 2011 10:07 am

Hello,

I am currently in US as a TN Holder and got another offer in Canada (my home).

My new work place will be in Canada whereas my home and family are already in Canada. However, my employer (who is another recruiter and it is a 1099 contract) is US based and will be remitting payment to me in US currency.

What I would like to know is if I need another TN for this new employer even though I and my workplace (which is a Canadian client of my US recruiter) will be in Canada?

You do not need any status to perform your work in canada, regardless of how you are paid.

If you were paying tax in US (you probably should not have) then you are no longer taxable in US on this Cdn work.
