TN Graphic Designer - Television/Video?

Post Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:28 am

Hey all,

Read a lot of info regarding TN Graphic Designer-related fields on this site, but couldn't find a previous post with my background.

I have two years of college experience in television broadcasting (diploma), and another year in video post production (certificate). Now, while neither program was tailored directly toward graphic design, each certainly had plenty of time dedicated to it. I believe my transcripts indicate 2 or 3 courses related to Graphic Design. After college, I began freelancing as a video editor and as a graphic designer. However, much more of my post-college work has been video editing. I have an American company interested in taking me on, but I'm not sure if I have a shot of being let through with my fairly general background of graphic design. I do have plenty of knowledge in both fields, but just don't have enough to show for on the Graphic Design side.

What are your thoughts? Thanks for any help!

You are correct. You won't get a TN for graphic design due to your lack of diploma. You could get an H1.

Thanks. I looked into the H1 and found information regarding the H-1B, H-1B2, H-1B3, and the H-1C. My field of expertise doesn't appear like it would fit on any of these visas. Which one were you thinking I could apply for?

The H3 visa could be good for you given your circumstances. Do you have at least 3 years of experience to compensate for the lack of degree? If you do, you could use that to acquire a TN, but from the sounds of it, you don't have much to go on. Maybe the company could sponsor you under the skilled category (EB-3) minus the amount of years you would need to wait for approval. :-|

TN requires related diploma plus experience. Poster did not indicate he had a diploma in Graphic Design, so that's out. At best we are looking at a TN as Management consultant, but the job being offered is not Management consultant either.

H1-b is available to most university graduates, so long as the job would require a degree. H1 allows for counting 3 years experience towards a missing year for degree.

I don't think H3 would apply to you. You aren't a trainee.[album][/album]

*Sigh* OK> :-| . I'll leave this one alone then. I was just merely not leaving any stones unturned for the above poster.

But what I will suggest is you (blood..) possibly getting legal consultation in regards to your case due to the complexity of your situation.
