TN holder working in Canada?

Hello all,

I am working in the US for an american employer on a TN. I would like to keep my job here but next year I will be working most of the time in our office in Montreal, would that be a problem?
Can I work in the office of Canada all year round and still get paid from US?

If not possible, would the solution be for the branch office in Canada to hire me and then hold the two jobs (US and CAN job) like two different companies?

If you were working occasionally in canada, you would remain a US employee (and US resident).

It really depends on your living situtaion. If you stay in hotels, or temp housing while working in canada, you will remain a US resident and can sty a US employee.

But if you take up residence in canada, since you will then be both living and working in canada, you should either become a Cdn employee of the firm, or you should become independant. You should not be paid or taxed as a US employee if you both live and work in canada.

I guess the option is for the canadian branch to hire me there and that way I can keep the US job but without being taxed as you mentioned.

It depends on how you "live" in canada. The taxation will be based more on that, not just who you work for.
