That is a non issue. TN visas have nothing to do with things such as unemployment rates or economy. If they even ask you about it in your interview, remind them that this visa falls under the North American Free Trade agreement, whether Americans are unemployed in this field or not it irrelevant.

No problems, infact I renewed my Visa on Monday, strolled into the Buffalo border station and renewed in person.

That's too bad. I really don't know any answers to your questinos but you should probably post it in the main Forum and start a new thread rather than just replying to this one. That way it'll catch some more attention.

In my experience, reminding border guards about the law doesn't put you in their good graces. Even though the law is silent on things like this and number of times you can renew and whatnot, it's still up to their discretion. I got rejected once because my BSc is in Biology and not Computer Science. even though the requirement for the TN is "baccalaureate". It's their way and/or the highway I'm afraid.
