Well, today was my renewal day, and I was denied, because my letter did not say "scientific Technician" it said "electrical Engineering Technician"

Long story short. No if and's or but's I was sent packing back to my place in the states (4 hours away) to change the wording to Scientific Technician Sad

I guess my question is.

When I have my letter changed should it say Scientific Technician-Technologist OR just Scientific technician, and then have it say what my title is IE Electrical Engineering technician.

And. Should I go back to the same border, and try and talk to the same guy that asked me just to have the wording changed?

thanks so much

I had this problem too. My degree was social work, but my job title youth treatment specialist. My employer would not give me a different title on paper, but did explain that the qualification was necessary for the job and that got me through (in fact, I just crossed over to Windsor, had it faxed through, and went back the same day).

If the guy says all you need to to is blah blah blah, it makes sense to go back to the same guy, you don't want anyone else telling you something else after!

Good luck!

Is a Technologist and a Technician the same thing?

On my re-written letter should it say "Scientific technologist/technician" or "just Scientific Technologist"?

Say both- covers all possibilities then.

An electronic technician is a 2-year program.
An electronic technologist is a 3-year program.
There are colleges (not universities) in Ontario that offer these 2 different programs.

Having said this, I don't think a scientific technician/technologist are the same things. A scientific technician/technologist is a person doing research, very different from electronic technician/technologist just doing repair.

Be careful going back to the border. Talk to HR or your boss, maybe you can be a level 1 engineer instead.

I have a 2 year in Electro-Mechanical Engineering
and 3 years experience.

I will be doing mostly electrical design, but there is both technician and technologist aspects of my job

My occupation falls under the Sci/Tech category.
So I figure I'll just hyphenate it Technician-Technologist.
