Hi there,

I will have to renew my TN in September 2006, what I need to know is what paper work I'll need to have before I meet with the TN officer at the boarder? I have the the letter that was given to me by the company to get my first TN visa, what will have to be different on this letter? What is the TN officer is really looking for? I will want to bring my family to the US in July, should I get there VISA's now or should I wait till I renew? I got my fist TN at the Queenston/Lewiston (Buffalo) bridge, should I go the same boarder? I usueall cross through Port Huron?

Thanks

I had a terrible time renewing my TN visa. Actually, the problem was I kept getting the same officer year after year, time after time and she was a miserable cow who kept turning me down, when the same info with another officer was ok'd.

Be sure to have a letter from you employer, including salary, length of service, and length of contract. If you have ID for work, bring that and arecent cheque stub. The cow also required that I have rent reciepts and recent utility bills.

Oh ya, of you have a license or registration for your profession, be sure you have that. I think I brought my diploma too.

If you have that stuff, there really should be no problem, I jsut ended up with a horrible officer. (Several years later when visiting the US, I had her again and she hauled into a backroom and intergated me for an hour! Sorry- thats probably not helpful)

Good luck! I'm sure it will be fine!

PS- A couple times I had to get my employer to fax something to me at Office Dept or the like and run it back to the border, saved me an extra trip on another day!)

You need the same documents for a renewal as you did for the initial application. Try to have real documents, not faxes. You can apply by mailing Nebraska if you don't want to cross the border. It takes longer and is more expensive. You don't have to travel, though.

For TN renewal, planning in advance and sending these by mail is probably better option without having to leave US or travel to boarder only for it.

How far in advance should I be renewing my TN in person. Say if the TN expires in end of Sept.06. Now it's Aug.8th.

Also, I would be getting my wife and kids TD visa. What's required for this and if they should be going with me to get my TN at the boarder?

If you are going to the border to "renew" your TN application, you just need to go before your TN expires.

Your wife and children may accompany you to the border on the day you go and get their TD's that day or they may go after you get your TN (provided they do not remain in the U.S. beyond their authorized period of stay either). They will need to show evidence of their relationship (marriage certificateand birth certificates). If they go after you get your TN, they will also need to show proof of your TN (copy of your I-94 and employer letter).

Brian's feed back was good.

Also, have to make sure your renewal letter indicates that your work is for one year period. My employer forgot to put that I had to come back and get my visa renewed. Make sure you go and renew two weeks in advance, just in case you forgot to bring with you some document. You never know. Also, if you are an Engineer and you are only doing programming, the officer technically can reject your TN, as Programmers are not categorized as a TN profession.

You can apply for renewal of TN and TD visas by mail at the Nebraska service center.

Unless this has changed, my wife renewed her TN by mail a couple of times.
