TN Visa and spouse questions

Post Sun Jan 09, 2011 4:26 pm

Hello!

I need to clarify several issues regarding an upcoming move to California from Ontario...

Our situation is as follows: I am a chemical engineer looking to change careers and get into solar energy. I have an upcoming job offer from a company as a "project engineer". My fiancee is to come with me when I move and either find a job in Cali or head off overseas to teach.

First off, I need to know if it's worth getting an immigration lawyer to handle my case, to make things go more smoothly. I understand the TN visa process relatively well but want to make sure my offer letter matches my credentials as well as the TN immigration policies.
Advice??? Also, during the current recession, do I have to argue the case as the why my potential employer cannot hire someone locally for my position?

Secondly, I need to know what my fiancees options are for staying in the US either long enough to find a visa-sponsored job or to find a job overseas (could be up to 6 months away) or obviously get married before she has to return to Canada.

Thirdly, I plan to bring my car over the border to use while working in Cali and would like some insight on how to properly do so (i.e, importing, insurance, driver's license, etc).

Lastly, any other advice or suggestions that would help this process go smoothly would be most appreciated. The last thing we need is for my TN visa to be denied or for my fiancee to be denied entry.

Thank you very much in advance!

Chris
