TN Visa at San Francisco Airport (SFO)

Postby vpbc2008 » Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:12 am

Hi,
Has anyone got a TN visa at San Francisco airport (SFO)?
My first port of entry into US will be at San Franciso and was curious about other people's experience at this port.

Where are you leaving from? If you're flying from Canada, you'll actually pass thru US customs at the airport in Canada.

I honestly don't know if they'd have a NAFTA person there, as its not usually a spot where Canadians woudl be getting TNs. Like I said, they're usuaally done on the Canadian side if you're flying, or at the border if you're driving across.

I remember 2-3 years ago I was re-entering US from China at SFO and although my TN was valid the immigration officer asked me to talk to the another office who handled TN cases. The person looked through my paperwork quickly and let me through saying I actually did not need to see him. So I do think there are immigration officers at SFO who deal with TNs.

All class A POEs can issue TN, the question is whether the guy who deals with them is there when you enter, you should check ahead if you can. Usually they work regular office hours.

How did this work out for you vpbc2008?

I currently have a TN that lasts through August, but there's a chance that I might need another one for a second job. If possible I'd rather drive to SFO (a short drive) and try to get it there, rather than fly up to Canada and potentially risk getting stuck on the wrong side of the border. Can that be done?

You have to enter the US to do it at a POE. If you want to renew without leaving, your employer has to file an I-129 for you.
