TN visa expires soon

Hello folks my TN visa is about to expire and although my company still wants to extend my visa i have decided to go back to Canada.

My question is if i am going back to Canada should i surrender my TN visa or just go back to canada before it expires? Is their anything one is suppose to do when your leaving?

I have a similar situation - my TN expires Sept 1, and my Cdn passport expires Aug 1, so I'm heading back to Calgary for a week prior to Aug. 1 hoping to get my passport done (paying extra to have it expedited since I got married and have to do the longer process/ name change/ etc.). My employer would like me to renew the TN for another year and I'd hoped to do it returning back from Calgary, at the end of July. Is this reasonable, and if so, should my new employment letter set a start date of August 1 (to coincide with my return to California) or September (to commence after the first TN expires)?

Also, I noticed on some other posts that people are experiencing problems with renewals at airports. Is this still occuring/ a common concern/ etc? I also noticed a post about having original transcripts/ degrees etc. I didn't provide them with the originals the first time, but had the originals on hand and provided them with photocopies. Is this still reasonable? I have 4 post-secondary degrees from 4 different universities, so obtaining actual original degrees would be a significant undertaking (and I probably wouldn't receive them all by the time I'd need them in any case).

Ideas? Anyone been through the Calgary airport re. TN's recently?
