Hi all,
I went in for my first
TN visa application today and was, sadly, rejected. Im applying to work as a statistical analyst at a bank. The problem with the application wasnt the job, but my degree. My degree is in computational biology. Although the major requires a lot of math and stats work, and about 50% of my course work was quantitative in nature, I was denied because it was a biology degree, and therefore not applicable to my job.
However, the lady at the border crossing didnt really seem to give the application much thought (I tried to explain why I was qualified but she didnt really give me a chance), but said that I could come back and see the NAFTA specialist for further review of my application.
I havent been able to find much in the way of stories of people who've had this problem. Is it not common? The lawyer from the bank suggested that I talk with my adviser from school, and have him send me an official letter saying that he feels my coursework has qualified me for the job. Is there anything else I could do? (I hate asking the next one, since Im sure you get it all the time) What are the chances that my appeal is successful?
edit: also, not sure if anyone would know, but I was given the option to go to either the rainbow bridge or the peace bridge (in buffulo and niagara falls NY). Is there any compelling reason to pick one over the other, or is it just a crapshoot?
thanks
