TN Visa - Stamp, I-94 and validity

Post Tue Apr 28, 2009 11:56 am

Guys,

My TN Visa is valid till middle of next month (April 15, 2009) where I planned on making a trip down to the Detroit-Windsor border to renew my Visa. However, in February, I have gone to Germany on a business trip and on my return, ofcourse a new I-94 was stapled on my passport. The interesting thing is that the customs official stapled the I-94 with validity (stamp) of Feb 26, 2009 and expiration (hand-written) to Feb 25, 2010.

The new stamp on my passport (also dated Feb 26, 2009) doesn't have an expiration written on it like each and every one of my TN renewals prior to this. My question is, did the customs official renew my visa without even checking or asking my credentials? Or should i make a trip back to the Canada?

Thanks in advance,
Ash

An I-94 is not a visa, it is an entrance/exit record.

Your TN has not been extended.

Ouch.
Why did he write "Feb 25, 2010" on the I-94? It's the only thing that's throwing me off. Also, is there a way I can do it somewhere close by like the Newark airport without having to fly out?

Thanks!

P.S: There's a typo in the first post. My TN is valid to May 15, not April 15.

He probably made a mistake. As Reba said, the I-94 is not a visa so your TN has definitely not been extended.

You can't apply for a TN at Newark Airport unless you're flying into the airport internationally. Your best bet is to rent a car and drive up to Champlain.

He made a mistake, as there is no actual visa for TN-1 it may not matter but I wouldn't risk it because then your entry record could be a real mess, just re-apply like you planned to.
Steve.
