TN visa to move from Alberta to Nashville?

Hmmm. I'm on disability in Canada but freelance with graphic designs, translation (english/french) and original music. I've been getting more work lately from the Nashville, TN area and thought maybe I could see an even bigger increase if I was to relocate here.

1- I'm here right now in the US and wonder if it's imperative I first go back in order to apply?

2- And would a TN visa be the best and simplest way? Do they come in various periods: 6 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 years, etc.

3- How long can the process take?

4- I have Canadian clients right now I need to fulfill work for online, is this counted as work in the "work permit" perspective?

The TN visa MUST be applied for at the US border, it cannot be applied for from within the country.

Okay this may be a dumb question. but what exactly is a TN Visa?

Its a work permit basically. You have to have a US employer sponsor you for it.
