Hi there,

I recently was rejected at the border for my TN visa application. I went and talked to an immigration officer here down in the USA after my interview with my future employer. The immigration officer told me I would qualify for a TN, and all I would have to do is fly back to the port of entry in Canada, and then present all my documentation and qualifications. I am in the insurance industry, I have a license to sell Property and Casualty insurance. The customs and border protection officer was a bit of a jerk, and told me that a Salesman doesn't qualify as a profession. Could I have done anything different in order for my TN to have been approved? Should my job offer letter been worded differently? The immigration officer told me that I didn't have to fill out the TN application, and to just go to the port of entry and it would be cut and dry. But once I arrived at the port of entry, the customs and border control officer asked me if my application was filled out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I suspect the border guard may be correct. Have a look at this list of positions and see if yours matches up with any:

The only insurance position I see is a Disaster Relief Insurance Claims Adjuster, but it doesn't sound like that's what you would be doing. I think you may be out of luck if you're job is just selling insurance.
