I am a dual American and Canadian citizen. I have just accepted a 3-year position in the US. My husband has accepted a job as VP Finance at a community college. The position requires a CPA/accountancy designation so he will be applying for a TN visa under the accountant category. When he is asked at the border about our future intentions in the US, is there a problem with him saying that if he decides to stay , he would be changing his status when in the US to have me sponsor him or should we just say we don't know our intentions for the future and we are trying things out for a year - which may indeed be the case?
Many thanks

Your intention on the TN visa should be temporary stay. You have a one year visa and at the end of the visa your intention is to return to Canada.

Now, no one knows the future. You can reevaluate at the end of the year and decide to stay another year.

Becareful, if the officer feels your intent is not temporary you may not be admitted.

Good Luck!
