TN1 -> H1B best border crossing

Post Sun Sep 18, 2011 12:12 pm

Hello,

I got my TN1 after serious grilling in Toronto Pearson Airport because my letter had both the NAFTA title Computer Systems Analyst and my official company title Applications Consultant. I have H1 approval and need to change to it, since it is valid from Oct 1. I am pondering which border to go through - Pearson, Peace Bridge, Vancouver.. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

H1 visa is not adjudicated at the border, so it doesn't matter which border crossing you take, they cannot overturn your H1 visa for whatsoever reason, except ofcourse if you have a criminal record. You don't even need to visit any POE to switch from TN to H1. Once your H1 visa starts in Oct, I believe your TN automatically invalidates. Confirm this with an immigration lawyer.

Good luck.

On my unscientific poll ("At Which Port(s) Did You Have a Positive [Negative] Experience?" at the bottom of http://www.grasmick.com/ ) Toronto PFI, Peace Bridge are rated about the same, and Vancouver is substantially worse.

Do NOT go through Blaine, WA - the Peace Arch south of Vancouver. The only times I have ever had trouble were there. The officers seemed to have a sort of routine figured out as they used the same phrases repeatedly. If you do go through Blaine... nod and smile and be polite no matter what they say or do. And prepare to be kept waiting... :shock: :?
