To transfer car/dl or not?

Hello all,

I'm a dual citizen (US/Canadian, in case that isn't obvious) who splits her time between Ontario and NY. I work in NY, my boyfriend lives in NY, and I live most of the time in Ontario, but spent a lot of time at my bf's house. The bf and I are purchasing a home in NY within the next couple of months. I plan on splitting my time between there and my home in Ontario. My question is if I need to transfer my car/dl to new york state once we move. I kind of live in both countries (the two homes are about 10 mins apart), and I'm really confused about this. I don't want to sever ties with Canada, because we plan on moving there within the next couple of years. However, I also don't want to get fined by having an Ontario car in NY. Anyone shed any light on this?
