I'd suggest looking into getting married in Gibraltar before you leave. It's a short flight and relatively cheap and you can get married within 24 hours there. It is also helpful because you don't need any sort of approval or certificate or permission. You just need your birth certificate and passports. It is also recognized by both Canada and the UK. It is sort of like the European equivalent to getting married in Las Vegas.
