Train Travel in the Czech Republic

Post Fri Jan 19, 2007 4:57 pm

Hi.

I've purchased a Eurail youth flexi pass for when I go backpacking in europe. The thing is one of the countries I was planning on visiting, the Czech Republic does not participate in this pass. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the Czech rail system. ie How it works. What kind of pass I should get and what conditions it has. If it's worth it and if their rail system has connections to Germany or Austria. After the Czech, I was thinking of hitting either Munich or Vienna. I read online that there's a Jr. pass for 100 CZK or you can get a book of tickets? Is that a good deal?

Merci beaucoup! :)

Hiya!

I wouldn't recommend a pass for Czech at all. Whenever I travel in Eastern Europe I'm amazed how cheap the trains are.

It's deifnitely not worth buying a pass if you're only going to - from Prague.

I would suggest goign from Prague to Budapest - It's a great city as well, and then you can just go straight across to Vienna, and later up to Munich.

Eurail passes are valid in Hungary as well, so you don't need to worry about that.

I wouldn't worry about buying your Czech train tickets online either - I'm sure you can get them at the stations no problem.
