Hey everybody,

Well I have my TN visa and we are ready to move to the US. We are selling our house in Canada and the plan is to buy something in the US for the time that we are there.

Here is my question I'm going to have a big chunk of CAD that I will need to exchange to USD. Where is the best place to do that? Also, how do I get the money into the US to use as a downpayment on a house?

If it helps my wife is a dual US/CAD citizen if that makes things easier.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Chris,

I have the same exact question, so if I find out any info, I will share. We are moving the end of this week. I am the dual citizen and my husband is the Canadian. -

Other posters have recommended Custom House. They will directly transfer money out of your Cdn account to a US account and apparently have good exchange rates.

I'm currently in the process of signing up, so can't verify any of this personally.

Been using Custom House for a few years now and it ROCKS! takes a bit to get signed up, not that much--but a fe secure emails (if u have a scanner)and there is a short phone call to verify info.

A transaction normally takes 3-4 business days! Its FREE if you do it electronically (EFT) they do have a wire service but there is a fee. I have never had a problem, and customer service rocks!

Yeah, I've used them, they are pretty good, the major advantage is that it is a Canadian company so legally you have easy recourse if something ever does go wrong. You can sign up at www.xe.com
