Transition WHV to Tier 2

I have been approved for a Tier 2 Skilled Worker General visa effective 26 March 2009. Prior to that visa I held a Working Holiday Maker visa, which expires 10 January 2010. At the time of applying I was told to put the start date of the work permit visa one year from when I began working for the company (26 March 2008 - 29 March 2008). From my understanding of the approval letter from the UK High Commission, I am not to enter the country until one month prior to the start date of my Certificate of Sponsorship, which would be 26 February 2009. This, however, is not acceptable as I am still employed with the company and need to return to work ASAP. Any idea if my WHV is still valid and I can use that to enter into the UK until my Certificate of Sponsorship kicks in?

Ummm...correct me if I'm wrong, but when I was on the UK Border Agency's website, they say that you can't change from one type of visa to another, at all.

Am I mis-interpreting the info I read? I thought that if you have a WHM/YMS visa, there was no way that you could change to a Tier 2. And, that you have to leave the UK, and apply for the new visa.

I'm all confuzzled now. Clarification please?

Obviously not has your WHV expired on the 10th of January, you have to wait for your other visa before you can start working again.
